Two-Rep Tuesday: Ep. 11
Speed of Learning > Pace of Change
Speed of Learning > Pace of Change
Learning Faster Has Never Been More Important
Welcome to our latest episode of 2-Rep Tuesday, where we bring an insight (Rep #1) and a question (Rep #2) from the world of high-performance to get your wheels turning.

The current pace of change, which has become our βnew normal,β is marked by three dimensions:
Perpetual - all the time
Pervasive - all areas of life
Exponential - accelerating at a rapid rate
This three-dimensional change defines our emerging future, and the greatest success will come to those with the ability to navigate and adapt. The pursuit of new knowledge and skills, the importance of fast and continuous learning, and the need for innovation have never been more critical.
π― Insight
To this end, Jeremy Utley, Stanford professor, advocates for βpracticing in communityβ to accelerate the pace of learning.
He shares how this can be expressed mathematically:
An individual learning in isolation: 1 person x 1 insight = 1 unit of learning
Many people, learning in isolation: 10 people x 1 insight = 10 units of learning
Many people, learning in community: 10 people x 10 insights = 100 units of learning
Creating environments to optimize shared learning begins with leadership creating the right conditions- the right mindset, organizational structures, and physical spaces to operationalize. It begins with leadership embedding meaningful processes that promote creativity, ideation, collaboration, and co-creation. Think Pixar! Which college athletic department will first earn the label βThe Pixar of College Athletics!β
π― Question
Is learning faster the best way to create a competitive advantage?
Is learning faster dependent on leadership creating the right conditions? How are you accelerating the pace and quality of learning in your department, team, and environment? If your organization is using the same old means and methods, why?
